Mark P. Marsters – President & CEO

Mark brings more than 30 years of Group Insurance experience to his position as President and CEO of Custom Disability Solutions. As President and CEO Mark leads a team of more than 200 employees in the delivery of comprehensive and customized reinsurance solutions. He is responsible for the development and implementation of CDS’ business strategy and goals, and his wealth of experience and strengths including organizational effectiveness, strategic growth, and execution of risk management, align well with CDS’ strategies. Prior to joining CDS, Marsters was Senior Vice President of Operations at Cigna Group Insurance where he was responsible for oversight and strategic performance of the Group and Voluntary Insurance operations of more than 2,500 employees. Previously, Mark began his career with UNUM serving in escalating management roles in disability claims operations, contracts, and underwriting. Mark is a consistent champion not only for operational excellence, but also a commitment to best in class service and stewardship, actively working to innovate and deliver group insurance programs to some of the largest and most diverse employer groups in the United States. Marsters holds a Bachelor of Science in Management from the University of Maine and completed graduate professional work at the Wharton School of Business, Penn State and Dartmouth College. He has designations as a Registered Health Underwriter (RHU), Associate of Life and Health Claims (ALHC) and Health Insurance Associate (HIA).

Paul Fields - Senior Vice President, Chief Finance Officer

With more than 30 years in reinsurance and finance, Paul Fields brings both his expertise and understanding of the industry to Custom Disability Solutions as Chief Finance Officer. Prior to joining CDS, Fields held a variety of financial positions including management of reinsurance and corporate financial reporting, contract development and administration and treaty negotiation with disability reinsurers including Unum , Duncanson & Holt and Integrated Disability Resources. As Chief Financial Officer at CDS, Fields is responsible for legal, contracts, compliance, pricing, valuation and accounting. Fields graduated from the University of Maine, Orono with a degree in Economics and Accounting.

Dan Hayes - Chief Information Officer

With over 25 years of experience in Group Insurance, Dan brings leadership experience in the areas of information technology, financial leadership and claims processing. Prior to joining CDS, Dan held a variety of technology leadership positions at Unum and Prudential including the position of VP Application Development and VP Claims Business Process and Technology. In addition Dan has held financial leadership positions including Head Internal Audit, Director Financial Planning and Analysis and Controller. As Chief Information Officer, Dan is responsible for developing and supporting applications, architecture and infrastructure as well as security. Dan graduated from Bowdoin College with a degree in Mathematics and Economics.

Tony Michaud - Vice President, Claims and Client Support Services

Tony Michaud is responsible for leading our claim organization's strategic and operational activities as well as fostering strategic planning around our reinsurance clients' organic growth. Throughout his more than 27 years in the industry, Michaud has focused on creating customer-centric teams focused on understanding client needs, supporting specific growth initiatives and delivering exceptional service. Prior to joining CDS, Michaud served as Director, Account Management at Unum from 2001 to 2004, where he led a team of eight Account Managers, who were responsible for servicing over 150 policies. While at Unum, Michaud demonstrated his leadership ability and customer service skills as a Disability Benefit Specialist and then as a manager in Unum's Disability Claims Organization. Michaud holds a degree in Computer Science from Andover College.

Jennifer Simpson, SPHR, SHRM-SCP - Vice President, Human Resources

With over 18 years of disability insurance industry experience, Jennifer provides strong leadership to the Division reinforcing strong company culture and strategies that support the achievement of business goals and objectives. Jennifer has a keen focus on employee development and talent acquisition to enable employees to reach their full potential and achieve their career goals. Jennifer possesses outstanding leadership, team building and technical strengths that generate optimum productivity with performance excellence. Simpson held various positions with reinsurer Duncanson & Holt. Active in the community, she serves on the Human Resources Association Southern Maine (HRASM) board. Simpson graduated from the University of Southern Maine with a degree in Business Administration.

Scott Wiley - Senior Vice President and Chief Actuary, Risk Management

With almost 35 years experience on the direct and reinsurance side of disability actuarial operations, Scott brings his industry experience and expertise to CDS as the Senior Vice President and Chief Actuary of Risk Management. In this role, he is responsible for directing the actuarial and underwriting operations to develop competitive products and pricing strategies that meet the profitable growth objectives of our customers. Prior to joining CDS, Scott worked for 14 years at Disability RMS as the Senior Pricing Actuary responsible for disability product pricing, competitive rate analysis, and product development. Before joining DRMS, he worked for 14 years at Unum in a variety of disability roles including pricing, valuation, and financial reporting. Scott graduated with honors from the University of Maine, Orono with a B.S. degree in Finance.

John Murphy - Vice President of Pricing and Analytics

In his role as Vice President of Pricing and Analytics, John is charged with expanding CDS's capabilities in predictive analytics and making continuous improvements in our metrics and pricing models. John has nearly 30 years of experience modeling and pricing Disability and Long Term Care products. For the last 16 years, he has focused on pricing Group LTD reinsurance, most recently at Munich Re, where John was responsible for pricing and monitoring blocks of excess LTD reinsurance. Prior to Munich, John worked for 10 years at Disability RMS, providing pricing and consultative services to clients. He also worked with underwriting to help craft sales and renewal strategies and build underwriting tools. Other experiences include Long Term Care modeling and Individual Disability pricing. John graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a degree in mathematics and economics.

Jennifer Agger - Director, Claim Operations

As Director of Claims Operations, Jennifer leads the administration of both short term and long term disability claims. Jennifer has over 20 years' experience in multi lines of disability insurance, starting her industry career at Unum in individual and long term disability in their psychiatric & cardiac units as well as national accounts for Unum's large specialty groups. Agger transitioned to Custom Disability Solutions in 2001 and has held various leadership roles managing the front-end customer service administration to both short and long term claim teams for all CDS's reinsured clients. She has worked with the Social Security Administration's Ticket to Work program and held the Special Investigations Unit Coordinator position, conducting investigations and serving as a liaison with regulatory and law enforcement personnel since 2005.

Cynthia Bellefountaine - Director, Technical Services

Cynthia has over 41 years of disability experience across the individual, group and reinsurance industries. She is responsible for Training - Policy and Procedures and our Clinical and Vocational teams, and she leads the development of our Technical Support Center and outsourced partner network. Prior to joining CDS in 2002, Cynthia held a variety of positions in her 25-year career with Unum including Claims Examiner, Trainer of ID, Supervisor and Director for ID, Group LTD and Association claims. Cynthia worked at John Hewitt and Associates as a Claims Executive performing Claims Oversight, and Client Operational Assessments. Her tenure at CDS also includes roles of Project Manager and Manager of Quality Assurance, Appeals, Settlements, and Claims Teams.

Evan Flaherty - Director, Network Administration and Technology

Evan leads an IT team responsible for system projects and upgrades that strengthen and improve CDS's technology infrastructure. He has over 12 years experience in the technology field with prior roles as a contractor for both Salient Technologies and CDE Technologies, and he plays a key role in the ongoing development of CDS IT services that support our clients' technology needs. Evan graduated from the University of Vermont with a BA in Business / Management Information Systems.

Cheryl Littlefield - Director, Finance

Cheryl has worked in the reinsurance and financial accounting arenas for more than 25 years. She currently directs a staff of seven accounting and tax professionals and is responsible for all aspects of reinsurance accounting management. Cheryl has extensive knowledge of disability claim payment issuance, tax accounting, premium billing and accounting and financial reporting. Prior to joining CDS, she held similar financial management positions with disability reinsurers Duncanson & Holt and Integrated Disability Resources. Cheryl holds an HIAA designation and attended the University of New England.

Mark Murphy - Director, Compliance

Mark Murphy is Director of Compliance at CDS. He oversees CDS's regulatory compliance, policy form filing, claim appeal, quality review/audit and legal functions. Mark began working in the disability compliance field in 1992, after several years teaching history and coaching at a pair of NJ independent secondary schools. He has been with the CDS organization since 1997. He holds several industry designations, including the FLMI, HIA, and AIRC, and has spoken on disability compliance topics at several national and regional meetings of the Association of Insurance Compliance Professionals (AICP). Originally from Pawtucket, RI, Mark is a graduate of Moses Brown School in Providence. He earned a B.A. in History at Trinity College in Hartford and an M.A. in History from the University of Connecticut.
